KLS Martin Group relies on CHRONOS for the backup of application data

KLS Martin Group is a global medical technology company based in Tuttlingen, Germany. It has been developing and producing surgical instruments, implants and operating lights since 1896. KLS Martin stands for innovative solutions in surgery worldwide.

The challenge

As part of an IT realignment, KLS Martin needed to back up data from several legacy systems while reducing storage and maintenance costs. Fast performance and permanent access to archived data were essential.

KLS Martin Group relies on CHRONOS for the backup of application data

When decommissioning legacy systems (=application retirement), it is often necessary to ensure that the data continues to be stored in accordance with legal or internal requirements. With CHRONOS, CSP offers a cost-effective and secure solution for data archiving. The KLS Martin Group has been taking advantage of this since November 2021. In 1896, the KLS Martin Group began dedicating itself to surgery with the promise "Surgical Innovation is our Passion".

Since then, they have been developing and distributing medical solutions such as implant systems, surgical lights and surgical instruments. They place particular emphasis on precision and care. Naturally, this principle is also applied to the archiving of your data.

With the CHRONOS software, which was developed by CSP for database archiving, old data can be made available over a very long period of time. This data is optimally protected against unauthorized access and the open archive format ensures that the data can be read in the future. KLS can therefore access its data quickly and easily at any time.

In recent years, the KLS Martin Group has expanded by merging with several companies, such as KLS Martin Medical and Mondeal Medical Systems, which are also positioned in the medical sector. As a result, more and more archiving-relevant data is being generated. To ensure that the retention periods and audit compliance of this data can be guaranteed, the company decided to use CHRONOS software in order to easily comply with all compliance regulations. "Previously, we had various systems in place and archiving didn't play a major role. Due to the company restructuring, the data had to be archived. This was solved with CHRONOS," explained Wojciech Wypior, Head of Business Applications at the KLS Martin Group. Before the merger, various ELO systems were used. These are ERP solutions that are used to manage all business processes in a company. "Now we rely on CHRONOS and everything that comes in the future in terms of long-term archived data will be archived in CHRONOS," replies Wypior.

By using CHRONOS, additional software for the KLS Martin Group can be saved, which was one of the reasons for the standardization.

A lot of data has been archived since November 2021 as part of the first pilot project. Thanks to the positive experience gained, the scope will be extended to other projects and completed by the end of 2022. Wojciech Wypior is very satisfied with the integration of the system and the implementation by CSP. "The collaboration works very well. You can always rely on the CSP employees, both in terms of deadlines and content. Everything runs smoothly."
