Your backup is not an archive and that will cost you.
Many companies believe that classic backup solutions keep them on the safe side. But backups are neither tamper-proof nor audit-compliant and they do not meet the requirements of statutory retention obligations.
What happens at your next audit: Data cannot be reconstructed beyond doubt. By the time a regulatory request arrives, the gaps become visible – with potentially serious legal and financial consequences.
Performance Degradation
Every SQL query takes longer. Nobody remembers when the database last ran smoothly. The team waits, processes stall, frustration grows.
Exploding License Costs
The Oracle invoice keeps growing, not because you use more, but because your databases keep getting larger.
No Compliance Structures
One audit request is all it takes and chaos breaks out. Where is the data? Who can prove it? Evidence is missing that should have been routine.
Manual Processes as Bottlenecks
A department needs historical data? Contact IT, check backup, export, convert, release. Half a day of work – for a single file.
Paying for Unused Legacy Systems
Legacy systems are no longer in use but cost money every month – simply because they must keep running for legal reasons.
Missing Exit Strategies
Without a clear data strategy, the foundation for BSI C5 audits is missing – and companies remain locked into expensive platforms and cloud providers.

3 Case Studies with Real Numbers
BMW Group, KLS Martin Group and Schlecker – with concrete savings figures and measurable outcomes
Leading companies rely on CHRONOS
From serial production to insolvency wind-down – three real-world deployments with measurable results.
BMW Group
Production operations generate enormous volumes of data that must remain available for many years for both legal and operational reasons. Database performance was suffering under data growth while storage costs were rising sharply. Using CHRONOS, approximately 3.75 million records per month are now archived in a revision-safe manner, fully integrated into the existing IT landscape without disrupting any running processes.
KLS Martin Group
Multiple corporate mergers caused data volumes to grow without a unified archiving concept. Long-term data availability, legally compliant retention and software landscape consolidation all needed to be achieved simultaneously. Since 2021, CHRONOS has archived data from legacy systems – including former ELO and ERP platforms – in an open format that remains readable independently of any software vendor.
Schlecker
After the 2012 insolvency of one of Europe's largest drugstore chains, more than 30 legacy databases and all IT systems had to be wound down cleanly. The insolvency administrators needed to ensure all relevant data remained legally accessible for tax authorities, pension funds and courts – without access to former employees. CSP implemented CHRONOS to archive seven legacy systems and securely store all emails and files, accessible via a central interface and VPN.
