Leading manufacturers are working with VDMA Robotics + Automation to develop an OPC UA Companion Specification (CS) for joining technologies. Active participation in expert committees ensures the earliest possible support for CSP customers.
Machinery and plant engineering is considered as one of the innovation drivers of the German economy. With its technologies, this industry includes all areas of life. For example, it provides new solutions in the fields of engine technology, energy efficiency, resource preservation and medicine. The largest network organization in Germany and Europe, with around 3,300 members, is the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). For communication and data connection between machine and IT, OPC UA increasingly established itself as a standard in industrial automation. This is an open and flexible communication protocol for automation applications.
“It is ideal for implementing Industry 4.0 and digitalization. OPC UA is also used in our process data solution IPM. In order to open up our specialized approach and make it standard, we are now part of a VDMA working group set up specifically for this purpose. Together, we are working on the new OPC UA IJT standard there, which will create a new and uniform way to connect machines,” explains Alexander Cocev, Managing Director of CSP GmbH & Co. KG.
OPC UA IJT, the standard for Industrial Joining Technology, will significantly reduce the connectivity costs in the future. This allows to cooperate with numerous station and machine manufacturers and to integrate diverse software solutions in a simple way. With this certified interface, CSP software solutions supports manufacturing technologies such as riveting, welding, gluing and screwing.
Alexander Cocev adds that the goal is to offer a plug-and-play connection to the solutions from CSP. This enables customers to implement promptly and thus accelerate data connectivity with OPC UA IJT. This means that use cases such as asset management, condition monitoring and standardized results of joining processes can be provided with a generic information model independent of the manufacturer.
